This summer is about…

fishing, watersliding, Water Country, Sandy Point, tidepooling, gymmnastics, hockey camps, sleepovers, sleepovers with no sleeping, baseball games (in our yard), baseball games (at Fenway), bike rides, good neighbors and happy, dirty, tired children…..

So far it’s been a really good sumer….

Tongue Stitches June 30, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — jrcmom @ 7:46 am

Yes Jake is the proud owner of 2 stitches in his tongue. Jake & 2 of his friends & Cole were on the waterslide. Jake slide down and didn’t see Cole at the bottom before it was too late. Jake hit his chin on the top of Cole’s head and bit right through his tongue.

It was bleeding profusely so off we headed to the ER. Short wait thank god. Jake wasn’t in much pain and only wimpered when he started thinking about stitches.

Physicians Assistant came to look at it and she walked in saying “We almost never stitch tongues. They heal so fast.” She looked at Jake and decided she needed a second opinion. Dr came in saying “We almost never stitch tongues. It needs to be hanging to stitch it.” He looks at Jake and says “Well, that’s gonna need 2 stitches.” This prompted 2 short tears from Jake and then the PA assured him that they’d numb it up so good he’d never know what happened.

She gave him liquid lydicane on gauze to press on his tongue.  Then she used a spray lovicane. Then she went in with the novicane shots. Jake didn’t flinch. Didn’t cry. Then she did 2 quick stitches. He was a trooper. He said that he didn’t feel a thing. He cooperated and held his tongue out of his mouth and held still when she asked.  He did great.  He took a little tylenol last night but otherwise he’s good.

3 days of abx and 2 dissolvable stitches and 5 days of soft foods….

But mom I haven’t seen this one… June 26, 2008

The Red Sox have an off day today (how dare they!) But Cole came right in and plopped down in front of the TV and turned on 623 (NESN dontcha know). It’s 9pm and I’m trying to put him to bed and he says, ‘But mom I haven’t seen this one.’ It’s like he watching a new episode of Spongebob or something like that. He’s actually watching Red Sox classics - game from Sept 1, 2007.

But mom I haven’t seen this one? Umm… He remembers that he hasn’t seen this game?  So rather than cartoons or anything like that he’s watching a baseball game from last September.

He just applauded when Big Papi walked. Then he yells “Let’s go Mike!” (Yes Mr. Lowell is up now.)

I’m bored…. June 26, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — jrcmom @ 9:20 am

It’s day 7 of school break and if I hear “I’m bored” one more time I may lose my mind. Why are 3 perfectly able children not able to find something to do… Without yelling I go through the list

Find a friend, read, do a craft, color, clean your room, put away your laundry, play in the backyard, go on the waterslide, watch TV, computer games, Wii, polly pockets (or legos depending on gender of bored child), go outside and play lacrosse (or baseball), ride your bike, ride your scooter, climb the damn tree, pick flowers, I DON’T CARE JUST FINDING SOMETHING TO DO.

Yes generally  by the end I’ve raised by voice to almost yelling….

I’ve already spent more money in a week than I’d planned on spending all summer. That has to stop now. Right now…..

I miss my brother & his family…. June 15, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — jrcmom @ 8:44 pm

They are visiting this week from Iowa. Everytime they visit I realize how much I miss them. I wish that they still lived back here. I know that everyone can’t always live close but I still wish that they lived much closer.  Iowa is just too darn far. I wish that somehow I had the money to move them back here.

I love my brothers. They are mirror image identical twins but damn if they aren’t totally different people. But you know what… they miss each other being so far apart.  They need to live closer.

I miss my SIL. She’s cool. I like talking to her. I like laughing and drinking with her.

I miss watching K&A grow up. The girls are cute together now. There is less fighting and they had a good time at the beach together. Usually 3 is a crowd but they did well together. K is a great kid. She’s fun and she and R are having fun together.

A will be 2 next week. Two! How did he get to be 2 years old???? He’s such a cutie and looks so much my other nephew N at this same age.

Tonight was family lobster night. Lobster is expensive but it’s a tradition to have family lobster night when CCK&A are here. The older boys each had a king crab leg ($18 /lb Yikes). Every who likes lobster had lobster. The rest had tips, burgers, brats, hot dogs…. We had salad & bread but who eats that when you have lobster & steak!! We may have converted Kari to a lobster person. She had only tried it before and wasn’t sure if she liked but tonight she had a whole tail. It was a process showing her how to crack it. My family won’t let you eat lobster like a sissy. You can’t crack it… you can’t eat it…. So she learned. The expection to this rule, of course, is my dad’s girlfriend….. Don’t get me into it… she’s not well liked by many of us… and cracks her lobster for her and removes all the meat so she doesn’t get messy. Ugh. Drives me nuts…..

And finally… Go Celtics.

Things….. June 12, 2008

1.  My friend K is heading to the hospital as I type.. She being induced tonight. Think easy labor vibes for her. I hope Max makes a quick arrival.

2. My brother got here from Iowa. They never every have uneventful flights and it happened again. Weather & plane hit by lightening delays. I hope that SIL & kids have better flights on Saturday.

3. I worry too much that Riley is goofing off at gymnastics. I’m sure that I would have heard if she was but I want her to be focused when she is there and just not sure that she is. She is the youngest kid there but still….

4. Riley may be quitting hockey.

5. Jake may be skating out more than playing goalie this year. Much scancal on our town team. It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out.

6. Riley’s teacher is retiring and I’m so sad that I cry when I see her. She will be missed…..

7. I wish that we had a pool. I am DYING to have a pool. We don’t have town pools in my neck of the woods. The cheapest pool / country club option is so freaking pricey that we can’t afford it.

8. At this very moment the Celtics look like crap. It’s 26-7… yikes…

My kids love sleepovers…. June 6, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — jrcmom @ 8:29 pm

I do not like my kids the day after sleepovers.

They are cranky. They are irrational. They are not themselves.

Riley is sleeping at M&A’s tonight

Jake has Cam over.

I can’t wait for tomorrow.

Group gifts June 3, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — jrcmom @ 7:10 pm

IMHO, Group gifts for teachers are great. You give your $$ and somebody buys the teacher a cool useful gift. Without the group gift the teacher gets 20 little things - mostly useless. I have in the past organized the group gifts. At Christmas,  I organized the preschool gift (4 teachers), 1st grade gift & 3rd grade gift. All teachers got great useful gifts.

But being the organizer sucks. I got nasty emails from preschool parents (must be first time preschool parents) about how generic and non-personal it is. blah blah blah… I had elementary school parents who claimed they wanted to be a part and then never sent money. I had some emailing me at the last moment asking if they could join. I don’t mind doing it but I’m not going to do it every time.

I did not offer to do it end of school this year and not one of my children’s classmates parents stepped up. This sucks. I got the preschool teachers little gift bags with aromotherapy lotions / soaps / oils. Tiny gift bags - $20 each. I’m not sure what to get the elementary teachers. I hate giving the $20 Staples gift card. That seems so pitiful. With the group gift they got $100 Barnes & Noble, $100 Staples, Aromatherapy stuff, little trinkets, coffee gift cards, local gift cards… it was cool…. The $20 just from my kids seems so useless.

I hate not having the group gift but I’m not going to be the sucker that organizes it every single time.

Tomorrow is a beach day… May 25, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — jrcmom @ 8:22 pm

Jen called me at 4pm today and said “I’m going to the beach with the kids tomorrow. wanna come? I’m driving. Leaving at 8am.” I said “You betcha.” without even having to think about it. First beach day of the season baby!!!!

I ran out to the shed and found our boogie boards & buckets & shovels. I dragged out the beach towels & my new beach bag. I got my gear ready. We are going to my favorite beach - Sandy Point on Plum Island. Only 50 parking spots so you have to go early… 6 miles down a dirt road to get there…. Great for tidepooling with the kids. Pictures to come tomorrow….
